Installing a Windows Mobile Device on Windows 7 64bit

For you folks who are having a hard time looking for a guide to get your Windows Mobile Device connected to your Windows 7 64bit OS. Here’s how to go about it:

1. Download this driver update: Windows Mobile Device Driver for Windows 7 64bit

2. After downloading the device, install it. Should you get an error, just don’t mind it since you haven’t connected your device yet.

3. Plug in your Windows Mobile Device to your computer.

4. Windows will attempt to automatically install the driver. Click on the blue link that you see on the alert box and enable update from the internet.

5. If you get an error, just unplug the device and plug it again. You should be good to go after that, then you can sync your device with your computer.

Just a word of caution, make sure you have a backup of your contacts and messages in your Windows Mobile Device. By default, activesync will overwrite the content of your device should there be a conflict. Hope this helps. ^_^

Location of Java .jar files on Windows Mobile Smart Phone

For some of you guys who are wondering where the Java .jar files are kept in your Windows Mobile 6.0 smart phone, its at:

\\windows\appdb

My phone’s a daxian x999+ with esmertec java preinstalled. Take note, the java files are renamed after its installed in the device.

Notice that I’m using Total Commander as Windows Explorer won’t show the extensions by default. I’m not sure if this would help out anyone, but it took me almost an hour to figure out where the java files were. Hope this helps ^_^

Took a bit of time looking for java games that works with touch screen only SmartPhones (no keypads). Here’s a couple that I keep on my daxian x999+.

Abracadaball
Chessmaster
Megacity Empire New York
Might and Magic II
Millionaire 4th Edition
Petz
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party
SimCity Metropolis

You may need the latest version of Java on your windows mobile to make sure all these games run with no issues. I currently have Esmertec Jbed version 20080428.2.1. Hope this helps ^_^

If you are looking for a Java update to your windows mobile smart phone, you are in for a treat, gc14 of xda-developers.com just released Esmertec Jbed version 20080428.2.1.

You can download Esmertec Jbed version 20080428.2.1 from here.

With the new java update, I’m now able to play some of my touch screen only java games with audio on without crashing. For details about this file. Please visit this thread at xda-developers.com. Hope this helps ^_^

Windows Mobile Connection Error on Windows 7

I had a problem earlier connecting my Windows Mobile 6 smart phone (daxian x999+) to my ASUS F8SG laptop with Windows 7. Whereas ActiveSync worked fine with windows XP, Windows Mobile Device Center seemed to have a problem detecting my smart phone.

After installing Windows Mobile Device Center 6.,1 I plugged in my smart phone and I got this error on my device manager: unknown RNDIS device. Tried to look for drivers on the internet but no joy.

After a couple of tries though, I finally got my phone to communicate with my PC. Here’s what I did:

1. Installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
2. Plugged in my Windows Mobile smart phone (via usb).
3. An error appeared saying that my system can’t find a suitable driver for my device. I unplugged the phone and enabled the option to automatically find a driver online and install it automatically (or something like that as far as I can remember).
4. Went to Device Manager and uninstalled any undetected devices (the one with the yellow icons).
5. I reconnected my phone, this time a prompt appeared saying that its downloading the respective drivers online.
6. Followed the rest of the prompts and my phone worked fine with Windows Mobile Device Center with no problems at all.

I wish I had attached images to make it easier for some of you to understand, but I was such in a hurry to get my contacts from my phone to my pc that I forgot (oh well). Hope this helps ^_^
